Hello there! I’m rdein, the director of Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight and creator of the Momodora series.
For those who don’t know the Momodora games, they are side-scrolling games that I’ve been developing in my own time together with some friends through the years. They are greatly inspired by various experiences I had as a kid in the 90s, and my love for many PC games and console classics of that era is what got me interested in making my own games. With that said, it is an immense honor for me to be finally bringing my creations to home consoles!
Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight is the fourth entry in the Momodora series, but its story is a prequel to the other games, so you won’t be missing anything. In this Momodora release I designed the game considering a slightly different approach compared to my other games. To me, it felt like an evolution of some ideas I had tried in the previous releases. I took a more open approach to the level design, meaning at a particular point in the game you can take many different paths in whichever order you prefer. This brought some variety to the routing of the game, with some players prefering to challenge some bosses before others, or backing off of a certain area until they feel they are ready to explore it.
On top of that, the gameplay transitioned from platforming-oriented to combat-oriented, in some respects. Compared to the previous Momodora titles, now there is a much bigger focus on the way you fight enemies, and the commitment to your actions. Rolling through enemy attacks with the correct timing and managing your items to survive is an important part of making it through the game.
Lastly, I’d like to wish everyone a great time when playing Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight. I truly hope you enjoy it. It was a great project to work on, and I hope I am able to keep producing games like this.
